This project completed in partnership with our trusted suppliers for a first time client represents a perfect blend of contemporary design and historical prestige. Light, bright and full of character, these apartments in Frodsham Street Chester truly take the breath away. Let’s delve into how the right interior doors tied all the details together for an elevated finish.
A rewarding collaboration with a respected team
Our team was honoured to work with the team at Barke Baker Construction; a company which has developed a reputation for delivering only the highest quality build projects, working with handpicked contractors to get the job done.
Typically working within the Cheshire and Greater Manchester areas, Barke Baker Construction is renowned for its commercial construction, residential construction, new builds and refurbishments. In addition to inspirational conversions and extensions. Their reputation precedes them as a company which delivers exceptional results on time, on budget and to the highest standards.
Their director, Chris, initially approached to source flat entrance doors for apartments before developing a close relationship with the wider Express Doors Direct team. As a first time customer, we took Chris through a detailed consultation period including varying design discussions. After which, his team were impressed enough to award us with the full contract.
This project involved us supporting Barke Baker Construction with the conversion of a large historic listed building in Chester. More specifically, transforming the upper two floors into six stunningly stand-out apartments.
Frodsham Street is a historic, secondary retail street. It’s best described as one of those uniquely British spaces where heritage collides with the modern world. Lined with shops and bustling with life, this is the ideal central location from which to experience living in Chester.
Honing in on the apartment building itself, it encapsulates this blend of modern and historical to a tee. Featuring a crisp finish combined with authentic details such as rustic wooden ceiling beams. Upon receiving the brief and consulting with suppliers, we felt confident we’d be able to source impactful designs that would showcase this beautiful building at its best.
A perfect balance of fire safety and style
When it comes to sourcing fire doors for apartments, our team has a keen understanding of the exact specifications to look for which was hugely helpful during the consultation process.
First, we began sourcing communal door sets. These are doors for communal areas which are typically seen in the hallways between apartments. Often, these are seen when entering the building so it’s essential they strike the right tone in terms of design and durability.
It’s important to note that communal doors for apartments (or doors for commercial buildings) play another crucial role.They have to meet a stringent set of criteria to comply with building regulations, fire safety and the security of occupants. This meant we were only able to present PAS24 fire doors as suitable options.
To achieve this balance, we supported the clients to create a bespoke option created by Deanta UK. Heavily influenced by the popular Mexicano look, we opted for White Ely FD30 Door Sets with bespoke glazing which consisted of a single glazed panel down one size. A testament to Deanta UK’s broad fire door scope and technical expertise.
As part of the wider brief, our team also organised the supply of additional internal door solutions. Supported by the incredible team at XL Joinery, these would further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the build while delivering on functionality and performance.
For a timeless monochromatic vibe, we recommended PAS24 FD30 Flat Entrance Door Sets in a bestselling Suffolk design (supplied black prefinished). These were paired with sleek Shaker 4 Panel White FD30 Fire Door Sets for the internal door sets inside the apartments. Complete with ultra-chic black door hardware for a final flourish of design flair.
It’s during longer term projects such as this, that the enthusiasm and problem solving capabilities of our hardworking team really shines through.
Whether we’re sourcing alternative door hardware or ordering products over multiple stages to reduce costs, we’re in full control of the details to ensure optimum results.
