This page breaks down sizing, glazing, security specs, and frame options so you can pick the right set and get back to work.

Types of sliding doors

Sliding door systems come in different configurations to suit different parts of a build

• External use: Sliding patio doors, lift-and-slide setups, and multi-track systems engineered for full weatherproofing and high security
• Internal use: Pocket doors, barn doors, and internal room dividers built for interior room partitioning

If you need doors for interior rooms, head over to our internal sliding doors section.

Sliding patio doors

External sliding patio doors run horizontally along heavy-duty tracks, so they take up zero space inside or outside. They give you wider uninterrupted glass panels than any other door type.

We supply standard multi-track setups for both narrow and wider spans that make heavy glazed panels glide effortlessly.

French & bifold vs sliding doors

Sliding doors win hands down when you want maximum glass and clean, modern sightlines. Bifold doors stack panels to one side and block part of the opening, while French doors need plenty of clearance for the door leaf to swing. Sliding systems keep frame profiles narrow, stay tucked out of the way, and do not catch in the wind. Their only drawback is due to the sliding panels, they don't clear a door opening completely. If that's your main concern, opt for a French or bifold option instead.

What to look for in black doors

Your external doors need to handle bad weather, cut down heat loss, and keep out intruders. Choosing proper specs upfront saves you from costly callbacks later.

Thermal efficiency and U-value

Lower U-values mean better heat retention across the glass and frame. Our black aluminium profiles feature high-grade thermal breaks, placing an insulating polyamide barrier between the inner and outer frame to stop heat escaping through the metal.

Security and locking

Multipoint locking systems secure the door along the frame track at multiple points using a single key. Paired with double-glazed toughened safety glass, these setups resist forced entry and pass standard building regs.

Glazing options

Standard clear glass lets in maximum daylight and gives clean, open views outside. All our units come fitted with double glazing and toughened safety glass as standard.

Frame material and finish

Aluminium is the best choice for strength, slim profiles, and low maintenance on site. uPVC gives you a budget-friendly alternative, while we do not supply external timber options. A durable black finish protects the frames from weather damage, UV fading, and site scratches.

Slim sightlines and frame profiles

Thinner frame profiles mean a higher glass-to-frame ratio, giving your client better views and a cleaner design. Slim sightlines keep the structural strength high while keeping the profile out of sight.

How to choose the right sliding door

1. Size first: measure your structural opening accurately, taking tolerances into account, then select a panel count that matches the width
2. Use second: make sure you order weather-rated external systems for patio openings, not internal door dividers
3. Budget and extras: calculate costs including frame material, glazing, and trade installation
